Kim Gustafson, Executive Director

  • Mr. Gustafson graduated from the University of Colorado, then developed a diverse business background, a successful entrepreneur in multiple start-ups and served as the Managing Director of European & Asian Operations for a U.S. public company with subsidiaries in the U.K., France and Germany.  He was based in London for close to 17 years, obtained British citizenship, providing him dual nationality status.  After returning from Europe, Gustafson relocated to Vail, Colorado in 2002. An avid skier; Vail Ski School, Adult Alpine Ski Instructor; Volunteer, The Talon Crew, FIS World Ski Championships 2015. He founded RMCSR to lend his life experiences to a non-profit to make a difference in recreational and sports safety through science and research. He has certification from  the N.I.H. as a  Biomedical Research Investigator. As Executive Director, he oversees the day-to-day operations of the RMCSR.

Steven Gardner, MD, MPH

  • Dr. Gardner is an internist at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and the former medical director of the Massachusetts Special Olympics. He is a volunteer physician at Camp Jabberwocky in Martha's Vineyard and has served as a MGH Durant Fellow in Refugee Medicine with Project Hope in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake and as Chief Medical Officer of Project Hope’s Team Bravo in the Philippines after Typhoon Yolanda in 2013. He is a past winner of the Harvard Medical School Humanism in Medicine Award. He has been described by Dr. Carl Cooley of Dartmouth Medical School as "a doctor and an artist who sees with his heart.” Former Vail Adaptive Ski Instructor and avid skier, Dr. Gardner oversees all clinical involvements with the RMCSR. 

Michael Decker, PhD

  • Dr. Decker is a biomechanical consultant and research scientist in the Human Dynamics Laboratory at the University of Denver. His primary research interest is sports medicine and studies injury risk, training and rehabilitation with wearable technology. Dr. Decker worked in the Biomechanics Research Laboratory at the world famous Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail, Colorado and was an instructor in the Integrated Physiology Department at the University of Colorado, Boulder. He has presented at numerous national and international meetings, published nearly 200 peer reviewed articles including book chapters, scientific manuscripts and abstracts; and received awards for research, academic and teaching excellence. Dr. Decker oversees all scientific research and funding efforts for the RMCSR.
